Agricultural area around Ostrov village

Ostrov village lies just to the south east of the capital, on a meander of the Moscow river. The area is largely used for agriculture, but some small meadows and ponds have survived.

Species
Breeding species include Grey Partridge, Barred Warbler and Penduline Tit. One of the ponds holds a colony of Black-headed Gulls and the high banks of the Moscow river hold significant numbers of Sand Martins. During migration, Snow Bunting, Shore Lark, Red-throated Pipit and Great Grey Shrike occur on the open fields and interesting raptors may also crop up.

Access
Public transport — by bus no 355 from Domodedovskaya metro station to Sloboda village, or on foot from the bridge over the Moscow ring road (MKAD) at Besedy.

By car — as far as Ostrov village.
