Vinogradovo water-meadows

One of Moscow region's top sites and indeed many new sightings for the regional list are made here. Roughly half of the area is a reserve and the other half is given over to legal hunting during the game season, so time permitting, weekday visits are preferable. The accessibility of various points within the flood meadow complex is dependent on the water level.

Species
During spring migration significant flocks of geese and duck stop off on the flood plain of the Moskva and Nerskaya rivers, in addition to a wide range of waders, among them Great Snipe and Ruff. Migrating raptors include Harriers and Osprey. Of interest during the breeding season are Gull and Tern colonies, passerines of note are Grasshopper and Barred Warblers as well Penduline Tit. A characteristic bird of the water meadows in winter is the Grey Shrike.

Access
Public transport — 1.5 hours by local train from the Kazanskii station or just over an hour from the station adjacent to Vykhino metro station as far as Vinogradovo or Konobeevo.

By car - Novoryanzanskoe shosse as far as Novotroitskoe, take a left on the A-108 towards Vokresensk, before reaching which take the first turning on the left after the bridge over the Moscow river signposted for Marishkino, where you can leave your car.
